I read the news; I saw it on the TV; so I went to see the alleged 100,000-tonne ‘supercarrier’ the USS George HW Bush myself. It was disappointing!
Wikipedia; that always correct source of information 😉 tells us that the USS George HW Bush Nimitz-class aircraft carrier has a:
- Displacement: 102,000 long tons (114,000 short tons)
- Length: Overall: 1,092 feet (332.8 m) Waterline: 1,040 feet (317.0 m)
- Beam: Overall: 252 ft (76.8 m) Waterline: 134 ft (40.8 m)
- Draft: Maximum navigational: 37 feet (11.3 m) Limit: 41 feet (12.5 m)
Over a thousand feet long?? As you can see; I measured it; no way is it 1,092 foot in length. So this begs the question. Are all American sailors small?
